Research
How do I start my research?
Advanced Search is an effective way to search the library website for sources. Check out this walkthrough to effectively get the results you want!
Our existing research guides are another great place to start. Choose your program, and explore the resources that have been curated by our librarians to help you with your search.
Request A Research Appointment to get help finding sources, talk through your assignment, or get a general overview of library resources. These are provided via email response, video call, or phone call (you can choose!)
With Inter Library Loan you can get access to books and articles that are not available on our library website. Log into iLLIAD using your netID and password to place your request
I saved a link while doing research, but now it doesn't work?
If you find an article through our databases, you are technically on a timed session. You can't save the URL, in order to find an article again later, because it will expire as soon as this session ends. If you would like to save a link, look for the "Permalink" option. This link will work at any time.
Writing
The Academic Success Center has writing tutors that can help you with the construction and proofreading of your paper. While in-person writing tutoring is available at SUNY Brockport's main campus, there are also remote options.
Option 1: Synchronous (real time) Brockport Writing Tutoring
Meet with the Academic Success Center tutors via Microsoft Teams
Option 2: Synchronous (real time) STAR-NY Writing Tutoring
STAR-NY is a consortium of SUNY professionals who provide online tutoring. They're available from 7PM-11:59PM on a first-come first-serve basis. Great for after hours help!
Option 3: Asynchronous Writing Tutoring
Submit notes, a draft, or up to six pages of your assignment. A writing tutor will respond with suggestions on how to edit or improve your writing via email. You can request a follow-up after reviewing the suggestions, and you can request multiple appointments for longer assignments.
For more information about in-person or remote writing help (or to schedule an appointment), follow this link.
Citations
Zotero
Zotero is a free bibliography software that helps you keep track of your references! It can create citations, and generate a bibliography using the articles/resources you have saved. This guide is meant to be used page by page to learn about Zotero. Work your way through each of the tabs to learn more about Zotero.
