What's Good to Read! Summer 2022

About Claire

Hello from your local librarian!

When I'm not doing research or giving library instruction, I still like to read in my free time. I've read some books I like, and some that I haven't, and I'm always open to suggestions for new reads. I read between 5-10 books a month, so here's what I thought was the best of my stack :)

What I like: I mostly read literary fiction, general fiction, and action-adventure type books. I like books that have complicated plots, rather than complicated characters. If there's a mystery to untangle, or plot-twists, or surprises (something that seemed like a small detail is now crucial to the characters' success!); those are my favorite types of reads.

Everyone's tastes are different! But if your tastes are like mine, than these books would be a good fit!

The Secret History by Donna Tartt -- A group of clever, eccentric misfits at an elite New England college discover a way of thinking and living that is far from the humdrum existence of their contemporaries. But when they go beyond the boundaries of normal morality they slip gradually from obsession to corruption and betrayal, and at last—inexorably—into evil.

Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley -- As a biracial, unenrolled tribal member and the product of a scandal, Daunis Fontaine has never quite fit in. After Daunis witnesses a shocking murder that thrusts her into a criminal investigation, she agrees to go undercover. How far will she go to protect her community if it means tearing apart the only world she’s ever known?
