Using AI

As we step into the age of artificial intelligence (AI), we are watching some really exciting partnerships between humans and technology unfold. The job market is changing fast, and many careers we will see in the future haven't even been created yet. 

To thrive in this new landscape, it is important to become proficient in using AI effectively, safely, and ethically. Take the time to understand what AI can do and where it might fall short. Learn when AI can help you in your work and when your own human skills and creativity are irreplaceable.

AI is going to keep evolving and will affect many parts of our daily lives. While we can't predict exactly what changes are coming, this guide is here to help you make the most of your higher education experience as you prepare for the exciting future ahead. 

 

AI Use GuidelinesFlowchart for AI use. Use a chatbot if you want it to help you get started on an assignment, improve what you've already done, or explain an idea in simpler terms or a different way. Do not use a chatbot to fully complete an online assignment or help with research and find quick facts, quotes or resources.

  1. Know and follow your instructor's rules
    - Look through your course syllabus for an AI statement, or talk with your professor to make sure you know their requirements for each specific course.
  2. Learn about AI
    - Be curious about AI systems, learn how they work, and understand their strengths and weaknesses.
  3. Do the right thing
    - Use this guide to understand how to use AI ethically. Be sure to disclose if you've used AI and properly cite it as a source.
  4. Commit to lifelong learning
    - This is just the beginning of the surge in AI use. New tools and methods of using AI will continue to come out, always be looking for what comes next!
  5. Prioritize privacy and security
    - Keep in mind that AI tools are not private. Be sure to use trustworthy services, read their user agreements, and minimize the personal details you disclose about yourself or others.
  6. Cultivate your human abilities
    - Always continue working on understanding others and improving your interpersonal skills. Continue cultivating your creativity without relying on apps or AI.
