Pleasure Reading

Guide to pleasure reading within Drake library and online

Why Read for Pleasure

Benefits of pleasure reading (aka recreational reading, leisure reading, voluntary reading or independent reading) include improving reading comprehension, reducing stress, expanding knowledge, enhancing empathy and promoting personal growth.

Unlike assigned reading, the reader is motivated to self-select books that allow for relaxed reading for the purpose of enjoyment while exploring new and interesting topics.

Leisure reading can encompass novels, short stories, non-fiction, graphic novels, plays, magazines, and more.  It is the reader’s choice.
