U.S. Census for NYS

Current U.S. Census info at The New York State Data Center. Look to the left side of the screen for links to population, housing & economic data.

Drake Library has microfilm reels of U.S. Census from the 1st Census (1790) to the 15th (1930). They are shelved in Mic 3 HA 1 & then by year of Census. Except for the 1790 Census, these reels are the handwritten names of the residents of the state by county.

New York state statistics can be found on these reels: 1790 reel 2; 1800 reels 21-28; 1810 reels 26-37; 1820 reels 62, 69,72. Monroe and Orleans Counties didn't exist until 1821 and 1824 respectively.

New York State Census

The state conducted its own census in various years then every 10 years starting in 1825

New York State Census figures are available online for population and economy of counties, cities and towns for 1808, 1814, 1821, 1825, 1835, 1845, 1855, 1865, 1875, 1892, 1905, 1915 and 1925.
