Eligibility to Register to Vote
To qualify for voter registration in New York State, you must:
- be a United States Citizen;
- be 18 years old (you may pre-register at 16 or 17 but
cannot vote until you are 18); - be a resident of this state and the county, city or village for at least 30 days before the election;
- not be in prison for a felony conviction;
- not be adjudged mentally incompetent by a court;
- not claim the right to vote elsewhere

Ways to Vote
- New York State ResidentsIf you have a NYS driver's license, permit, or Non-Driver ID, a zip code currently on record with the DMV, and a SSN you can register to vote online in New York State. You can also use this website to update your permanent address or change your party affiliation.

- County Board RosterYou can find your county board of elections to register in person.
- Agency Based Voter RegistrationResidents also have the opportunity to register to vote at a wide variety of other New York State agencies. This component of the National Voter Registration Act is called the "Agency-Based Voter Registration Program", and it provides registration opportunities when applying for services or assistance at state agencies.
NYS Voter Registration Form
You may register to vote using the New York State Voter Registration Form accessible at the links below. You can complete a PDF version of the New York State Voter Registration Form on-line by clicking on the link below, typing the necessary information and selecting the appropriate boxes. Alternatively, you can print the form to complete by hand.
Once the form is completed, you need to print the form and sign it. Any kind of digital or Adobe-generated signature will not be accepted. Then, mail the form to your county board of elections.
